OFFSHORE FIELD JOINT COATING
Field coating services involve the coating of the girth welds produced on board pipe-laying vessels, at any offshore location, all over the world.
EUPEC’s wide range of coating processes is designed to meet all pipeline contractor’s needs, in Slay, J-lay and reeled configuration. EUPEC carries out the engineering, design and fabrication of custom-built equipment. We integrate the latest technologies to optimize performance on-site in terms of cycle time and quality whilst always respecting the environmental requirements. Our purpose-built coating systems and equipment are prepared, installed and operated by our highly skilled and experienced technicians and engineers.
Anticorrosion Coating
The field joint, or the bare part of the pipeline surrounding the weld area, is extremely sensitive to corrosion. The anticorrosion coating system includes surface preparation, induction heating and application of fusion-bonded epoxy and/or other single or multilayer anticorrosion products. Our flamespray polypropylene process combines excellent chemical resistance and corrosion protection with the mechanical protection and moisture barrier at high temperatures of the epoxies.
Surface Preparation/ Blasting
With our own customized High Speed Automatic Closed Cycle Abrasive Blasting System, it yields higher quality and efficiency while reducing cycle time as well as providing an environment where other activities within proximity can be safely performed simultaneously.
Heat Treatment
Our Induction Heating Systems enable fast and uniform heating without damaging the pipe’s parent anti-corrosion coating, at the same time shortening cycle times.
Fusion Bonded Epoxy
Fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) coating is a thermosetting epoxy-based powder coating system that is widely used to provide corrosion protection for new and existing pipelines.
Multi Component Liquid (MCL)
High solids amine cured epoxy formulated to provide outstanding resistance to impact, abrasion, chemical immersion, and from cathodic disbondment when used in combination with cathodic protection systems.
Flame Spray
A 2‐Layer coating system with FBE as the anti‐corrosion protection and a chemically modified polypropylene/ polyethylene (CMPP/ CMPE) as the top coat layer. This system utilizes flame spray equipment dispensing powder through a controlled flame to melt the PP/PE material on the substrate to achieve a thickness of up to 10mm.
3 Layer Polypropylene System
An automated 3-layer coating system by means of FBE with a layer of modified polypropylene adhesive, covered with polypropylene tape wrap to achieve comprehensive mechanical protection to field joint.
Heat Shrink Sleeve (HSS)
Anti-corrosion mechanical protection on the welded girth of pipelines may be completed using either polyethylene or polypropylene heat shrink sleeves. This process can be performed manually or using an automated solution for higher quality application.
Infill Coating
The high density polyurethane foam (HDPF) joint infill material is a fast curing open cell polyurethane foam and is applied by injection.
It is formulated to give high compressive strength, superior impact resistance, quick reaction and solidification time. The resultant field joint is a smooth, hard coating providing a flush transition from concrete coating, end-to-end.
Customized Polyurethane System
A system made up of two liquid chemicals i.e. Polyol and Isocyanate; with a wide range of various formulation to cater to different applications, and requirements (Density, Open Cell System, Closed Cell System), thermal Insulation, operating temperatures and floatation requirements of field joint coating.
GARD + Polyurethane System
An excellent material suitable for the pipelines which require both thermal and mechanical protection properties with density higher than sea water. Solid Polyurethane (SPU) is also well suited for deep-water pipelines in harsh conditions or high-pressured environments.
We also supply INSUGARD+ Aggregate Mix solutions. A dry aggregate is introduced into the system to provide rigidness and maintain stability on the seabed. The system is versatile and can be used for onshore pipeline river crossings to provide negative buoyancy solutions.
Insulation Coating
EUPEC is a market leader in insulated field joints using a combination of FBE and polyurethane or Injection Moulding technology. Polyurethane is used on field joints that require thermal insulation and high impact strength combined with excellent anticorrosion protection.
INSUGARD + Polyurethane System

Hybrid Insulation
A Half-Shell Hybrid solution that is a combination of Solid Polyurethane (SPU) and Polyurethane Foam (PUF) to achieve high level of insulation properties. This system is renowned for its cost effectiveness and characteristics of fast and easy on-site application.
PP Injection Moulding Process
The fully automatic PP Injection Moulding process provides continuous end-to-end pipeline coating, using the parent coating’s equivalent grades of polypropylene.
This cost-effective automatic process helps reduce cycle times dramatically and enhances the final quality. The technology is suitable with J-lay and S-lay configuration.
